Lingosive is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Migaku. Migaku and all other product names are trademarks of their owners.
Migaku has no free plan. To use it, you pay monthly or yearly, with a 10-day money-back guarantee, or once for lifetime access. What each plan costs is in the table above, checked on October 30, 2026. That day, the lifetime plan was on a Halloween sale set to end on November 3, 2026.
Migaku is a paid language-learning platform: structured courses plus a Chrome extension and iPhone and Android apps for learning from videos and web pages. We make Lingosive, a competing dual-subtitle extension, so every Migaku detail below comes from Migaku's own pricing page, FAQ and store listings, checked that same day.
How much does Migaku cost?
You pay for Migaku monthly, yearly or once for lifetime access. The table at the top of this page shows the amounts we saw on October 30, 2026, in US dollars. We couldn't check what other countries see, and the page had no note about sales tax or VAT.
The monthly plan can be canceled anytime. The yearly plan is the same product paid once a year, and its card sums it up as "Same as monthly. 20% cheaper." Both come with a 10-day money-back guarantee.
Migaku's FAQ gives no amounts. It sends you to the pricing page for "the most up-to-date pricing information, including any promotions and discounts that may be available," and another FAQ page warns: "Our prices will periodically increase as Migaku improves." Treat any figure you find, here or in an older review, as a dated snapshot.
The iPhone app is priced separately. The US App Store lists in-app purchases named Migaku Standard, Early Access and Lifetime at amounts that differ from the website's, with no billing periods shown.
Is there a free trial? Migaku's 10-day money-back guarantee
Migaku's pricing page doesn't offer a free trial. Its monthly and yearly plans carry a "10-day money-back guarantee" instead: you pay when you sign up and can ask for your money back within 10 days.
The confusion comes from Migaku itself. Its Chrome Web Store description still says: "Sign up for a free 10 day trial (no credit card required) at migaku.com!" That description also counts 10 languages, without Italian, while the pricing page says "Supports 11 languages," so the store text looks older. We go by the pricing page, since that's where you choose a plan.
If you were hoping to try Migaku for free, treat the guarantee as your trial and decide well before the 10 days are up.
What does one Migaku subscription cover?
One Migaku subscription covers every language Migaku supports. Its FAQ says "your Migaku subscription lets you study every language we support simultaneously," and the pricing page lists 11: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Cantonese, English, German, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Italian and French. Russian isn't one of them.
The plan cards compare like this:
| Monthly | Yearly | Lifetime | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How you pay | Every month, cancel anytime | Once a year | Once ("Never get billed again") |
| What's included | Tap words for their meaning, one-click flashcards, beginner courses for select languages | "Same as monthly" | "Everything in Monthly" |
| Early access to new features | Not listed | Not listed | Yes |
Migaku's FAQ says the browser extension currently supports Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Rakuten Viki and Animelon, plus web pages and video files you have yourself, while the iOS and Android apps "currently support YouTube" for video. The extension "has been specifically designed to work with Google Chrome," so don't count on Firefox or Safari.
The courses are currently available only for Japanese, Mandarin and Korean: Fundamentals covers the writing system and pronunciation, Academy about 1,500 words and 200 grammar points, and a Kanji course is there for Japanese or Mandarin learners. If you're learning Spanish or French, you pay the same price for the tools without the courses.
What do Migaku Lifetime and Early Access include?
Migaku Lifetime is a one-time payment for everything in the monthly plan plus early access to new features, with no further bills. Its card promises "One payment. Every new feature, forever."
Early access is what sets Migaku's plan types apart. Its FAQ lists Migaku Standard, paid monthly or yearly; Migaku EA, which gives you new features "as soon as they reach a usable state," also monthly or yearly; and Migaku Lifetime, "Migaku EA as a one-time payment." The pricing page showed no separate Early Access price, though Early Access appears among the App Store's in-app purchases.
On October 30, 2026, only the lifetime plan was on sale: Migaku's "Halloween Price Slice" took more than half off and was set to end on November 3, 2026. The table above shows both the regular price, from the card's "was" figure, and the sale price.
At the regular price, lifetime costs a little over five years of the yearly plan; at the sale price, about two and a half. It also shields you from the price increases Migaku warns about, but it only pays off if you're still using Migaku years from now.
Is Migaku worth it?
Migaku is worth it if you want an all-in-one study system and will keep up with flashcard reviews, especially for Japanese, Mandarin or Korean. It's harder to justify if you want a free plan or watch mostly on Prime Video or HBO Max.
Migaku is a good fit if you:
- want structured courses for Japanese, Mandarin or Korean alongside native content;
- like turning what you watch into flashcards: one click makes a card with a screenshot of the show and an audio snippet;
- study several languages, all on one subscription;
- watch Rakuten Viki or Animelon, read on the web, have your own video files or want to scan text with your phone's camera.
It's well rated, too: on October 30, 2026, the Chrome extension showed 4.4 out of 5 from 120 ratings, the iPhone app 4.4 from 377 ratings on the US App Store and the Android app 4.0 from 803 reviews on Google Play.
It's probably not for you if you:
- want a free version you can keep using;
- watch mostly on Prime Video or HBO Max, which aren't on Migaku's list of supported sites;
- want Netflix or Disney+ on your phone, since Migaku's apps support YouTube for video;
- use Firefox or Safari;
- are learning a language outside its 11, such as Russian or Turkish.
A free-plan alternative: Lingosive
Lingosive, the tool we make, has a free plan: dual subtitles and word translation are free and work without an account. The extension adds them on YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and HBO Max in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers on a computer. The second line is a machine translation into your language, so it works even when a show has no subtitles in your language, though it's occasionally wrong.
With a free account you can save up to 100 words, get 10 AI explanations of words in context a day and search three different words or phrases a day in Word in Film, which plays short clips where they're said in English, Spanish, French, German or Japanese. Premium removes those limits. On the web it's sold monthly, yearly with a free trial, or as a one-time lifetime purchase, and Lingosive's pricing page shows the price in your country.
The iPhone, iPad and Android apps add YouTube videos with dual subtitles in eight languages, Russian included, plus a book reader and flashcards for the words you save. Lingosive has no courses, no Anki export and no Firefox or Safari version, and no extension can add subtitles inside phone or TV apps. It's independent, with no ties to Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video or HBO Max.

Does Migaku have a free trial?

How much is Migaku lifetime?

Does Migaku work on Prime Video or HBO Max?

Within 10 days on the monthly and yearly plans, under the money-back guarantee on Migaku's pricing page. We couldn't confirm how to claim it or whether it covers the lifetime plan, so check with Migaku before buying.
