Does Dualsub still work on Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video?

No. Dualsub's changelog shows it dropped Prime Video on October 30, 2024, and Netflix and Disney+ on November 26, 2024. Today it's a YouTube subtitle translator that also covers a few other video sites. Lingosive adds dual subtitles and clickable words on YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and HBO Max in Chrome, Edge or Brave on a computer.

What changed in Dualsub, and when

Dualsub stopped supporting the big streaming services in late 2024. Its changelog lists each site it dropped and each feature it removed; these are the main changes that older guides don't reflect:

VersionDateChange
2.47.0October 30, 2024Dropped Prime Video
2.49.0November 26, 2024Dropped Netflix and Disney+
2.53.0December 27, 2024Removed the Chinese pinyin and Japanese furigana features
2.55.0December 29, 2024Removed native mode
2.62.0May 30, 2025Removed the YouTube auto-translate feature
2.66.0November 7, 2025Dropped bilibili, Coursera and Udemy

So a guide that walks you through Dualsub on Netflix, or through its native mode, describes a version from before these changes. The changelog gives no reasons, and we won't guess them.

What Dualsub does today

Dualsub now describes itself as a YouTube subtitle translator: "Translate and display dual subtitles on YouTube and other video websites. Lightweight, simple, and efficient." Its list of supported sites has YouTube, including the mobile site, and a few other video sites, among them Viki, Youku and iflix. It runs in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and the Firefox add-on is marked compatible with Firefox for Android.

The extension is free to install; AI translation is the paid part, with a free quota and a key issued without registration. Its translation page says that service is "optimized specifically for translating English subtitles." It's also widely used: on October 30, 2026, its Chrome Web Store listing showed 100,000 users and its Edge listing 44,919 active installs, and its Firefox listing dates back to October 2018.

Where Lingosive is different

Streaming services. Lingosive adds dual subtitles on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and HBO Max as well as YouTube, in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers on a computer.

Made for learning words, not only for reading along. Every word in the top line is clickable: hover for a quick translation, or click for other meanings, pronunciation, other lines from the same episode that use it, and a Learn button that saves it to your list. Saved words come back as FSRS flashcards on the web and in the iPhone and Android apps. Lingosive AI explains a word in its sentence (10 explanations a day on the free plan), and Word in Film plays short movie and TV scenes where a word or phrase is said.

How the second line is made. Lingosive's second line is a machine translation into your language. It's free on all five sites, needs no account and works even when a title has no subtitles in your language. You do need subtitles on in the language you're learning, because that's the line Lingosive makes clickable.

A Dualsub alternative for Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video

Dualsub no longer works on Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video, so dual subtitles there now take a different extension. With Lingosive, it's three steps:

  1. Add Lingosive for Chrome on your computer. It also runs in Edge and Brave.
  2. Play a title on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or HBO Max, and turn on subtitles in the language you're learning in the player menu.
  3. Click the layers icon next to the subtitle line, or press N, to add a translation line in your language.

For the details on each service, see the setup guides for Netflix dual subtitles, dual subtitles on Disney+ and Prime Video dual subtitles. Lingosive is an independent tool with no affiliation to Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, HBO Max or YouTube, and its plans are on the pricing page.

When Dualsub is the better pick

If you only watch YouTube, Dualsub is a good choice: free to install, light, and available for Firefox, which Lingosive isn't. It also covers a few sites Lingosive doesn't, such as Viki. For more options, see our best dual subtitle extensions for Chrome, or Lingosive vs Language Reactor if you watch Netflix and YouTube and want another tool that still covers Netflix.

Which one fits you?

Choose Dualsub if

  • You mostly watch YouTube and want a lightweight subtitle translator that's free to install.
  • You use Firefox, including on Android. Dualsub has a Firefox add-on; Lingosive runs only in Chromium browsers such as Chrome, Edge and Brave.
  • You watch Viki, Youku or iflix. They're on Dualsub's site list, and Lingosive doesn't support them.
  • You'd rather buy a short burst of AI translation than subscribe. Its credit packs are one-time payments that don't renew.

Choose Lingosive if

  • You watch Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video, which Dualsub dropped in 2024, or HBO Max, which isn't on its list.
  • You want to click a word for its meaning, save it and review it later with flashcards.
  • You want Lingosive AI to explain a word in its sentence, with 10 explanations a day on the free plan.
  • You want to hear a word in real movie and TV scenes with Word in Film, or keep studying in an iPhone or Android app.

Frequently asked questions

Why did Dualsub stop working on Netflix?

Its changelog records the change, "Drop support" for netflix.com and disneyplus.com in version 2.49.0 on November 26, 2024, but gives no reason, and we won't guess one. Prime Video had been dropped a month earlier, in 2.47.0.

Is Dualsub free?

The extension is free to install. Its AI translation is a paid service with a free quota, and the free key needs no registration. Beyond that, it sells weekly and monthly credit packs as one-time payments with no auto-renewal.

Is there a Dualsub app for iPhone or Android?

We found no separate app as of October 2026. Its site links to versions for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and the Firefox add-on is marked compatible with Firefox for Android.

Are Dualsub and Duosub the same extension?

No. Duosub is a different product, and a few small Chrome extensions use names close to Dualsub. This page is about Dualsub from dualsub.xyz, published by Dualsub Studio and listed as "Dualsub - YouTube Subtitle Translator".

Do older Dualsub guides still apply?

Only partly. Dualsub removed its native mode in version 2.55.0 (December 29, 2024) and its YouTube auto-translate feature in 2.62.0 (May 30, 2025), and any guide that sets it up on Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video describes a version from before late 2024.

Can I use Lingosive on Netflix on my phone or TV?

No. Lingosive's dual subtitles work in a computer browser, because phone and TV apps can't run browser extensions. On a phone, the Lingosive app plays its own library of YouTube videos with dual subtitles; it doesn't play Netflix.
